 Beetle Stool

The Beetle Stool is an ode to the wondrous creature that drew me deeper into nature.

My fascination with nature started as a child by investigating the forests with a tiny pocket microscope.

20 years later it forms a major inspiration. From a combination of material experiments, memories and fascination, I designed a stool with subtle, almost childish details of a beetle.

Three legs and a seat were cut separately from a stainless steel plate, then folded, welded, grinded and polished. The coloring process is a heat treatment that extracts the color from the stainless steel. It is identical to how we see the colors of insects. Light interference. Light waves that we see as color. My beetles do not have a protective coating, this allows the patina to remain ‘alive’.

Colours: light gold - deep gold - brown - purple - blue - coal Finish: Smooth satin, smooth glossy, coal (rough anthracite)
